Audible's plan lineup has shifted more than once in the last couple of years, and the pricing page alone doesn't make the tradeoffs obvious. Here's what each plan actually gets you, verified against Audible's own membership pages as of August 2026.
| Plan | Price | What's included |
|—|—|—|
| Audible Plus | $7.95/mo | Streaming-only catalog (thousands of titles), no credits, nothing to keep |
| Audible Standard | ~$8.99/mo | Newer entry tier introduced in 2026, sits between Plus and Premium Plus |
| Premium Plus | $14.95/mo | 1 credit/month (any audiobook, any price) + full Plus catalog |
| Premium Plus (2-credit) | $22.95/mo | 2 credits/month + full Plus catalog |
| Premium Plus Annual | $149.50/yr | 12 credits up front + full Plus catalog |
The one distinction that actually matters: streaming vs. owning
Plus and Standard give you access to a rotating catalog you can stream while subscribed — cancel, and that access ends. Premium Plus's credits buy you a specific audiobook that's yours permanently, subscription or not. If your priority is building a permanent library, only the Premium Plus tiers deliver that; if you just want something to listen to and don't care about keeping it, the cheaper tiers are real value, not a downgrade trap.
Is the annual plan actually a better deal?
$149.50/year works out to $12.46/month — cheaper than Premium Plus monthly ($14.95) — plus you get all 12 credits immediately rather than drip-fed monthly. The tradeoff is the same as any annual plan: you're committing a year upfront, and if you stop listening for a few months, unused credits don't expire but the discount only pays off if you actually use most of them.
Credits vs. buying outright
A new horror hardcover audiobook frequently lists at $20–30 individually. One Premium Plus credit ($14.95 effective cost) buys any single title regardless of list price — meaning the math favors Premium Plus specifically for anyone who listens to at least one full-price new release a month. Below that pace, the cheaper streaming-only tiers are the better deal.
What the pricing page doesn't tell you
Canceling is lower-risk than the signup flow implies — Audible has historically offered a retention discount or pause option at cancellation, and everything you've already bought with credits stays in your library regardless of what you decide.
Which plan to actually pick
- Listen constantly, want to keep titles forever → Premium Plus, annual if you're confident you'll use most of the 12 credits.
- Casual listener, don't care about ownership → Plus or Standard.
- Unsure → start with the free trial on Premium Plus — one credit costs nothing to test, and you keep the book either way.
